Blue cloth with printed paper label tipped on spine; 800 pages; minimal marks, Bangor Theological Seminary; cloth of spine varnished; strip of library tape at top of spine; minor foxing; otherwise unmarked, clean, tight copy. [Williamson, Bibliography of the State of Maine, No. 251] The second edition added 1100 entries to the original edition's 700. Allen was, among many things, the President of Bowdoin at the time. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall

Red cloth with bright gill decorative urn on cover, gilt lettering on spine, gilt foredges on all edges; 252 pages, 6 plates; Inscribed in ink to "Rev. B. Tappan/with the kind regards/of/E. J. Peet/Sept. 1849"; ex-Bangor Theological Seminary; cloth of spine tearing at rear hinge, a piece missing, Title intact; reinforced with short piece of library tape; spine a little shaky; otherwise unmarked, clean, sound copy, internally very good. Peet, of course, was the publisher; Benjamin Tappan, Sr. , member of a distinguished Maine family, was a leader in the Congregational churches of Maine and his son, Benjamin Tappan, Jr. , was to become the minister of the Congregational church in Norridgewock in 1858. We are unsure which Tappan was the recipient of the book. Howes, A-164; Williamson, 258.; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall
