Williams, Henry Smith The History Of The Art Of Writing, Complete In Four Portfolios Oriental, Classical, Medieval, Modern
Hardcover Very Good-
No date or publisher. Each of the four Portfolios simulates three-quarter brown leather on simulated linen covered boards with bright gilt title on upper left of front cover, and have ties with the same brown cloth at the center of the edge of top, bottom, and front of both boards--the ties are now only a remnant. Each Portfolio contains numbered chapters consisting of blue cardstock wraps with Chapter numbers (Roman Numeral) and a printed list of contents on the front. The cardstock wrappers in turn contain numbered plates (Arabic) , and each plate is accompanied by a sheet of text pertaining to the plate. The 4 Portfolilos, together, contain 28 chapters and 228 plates, both half-tone and color. Each sheet is 14" by 21", and the Plates are approx. 1/4" shorter in each dimension. A Bangor Theological Seminary Bookplate Is affixed inside the cover of each Portfolio, and each Portfolio Cover bears a printed sticker at the bottom of the spine with call numbers, volume, and copy number. The sheets of text, being slightly larger than the plates, show some edgewear; the plates are on heavier stock and show little or no edgewear. The plates are uniformly clean and bright. This set came from a private collection to Bangor Theological Seminary, and shows more wear and soiling to the Portfolio covers themselves and slightly more edgewear to the sheets. The Plates, however, seem clean, bright, and free of edgewear. The stickers on the spine indicate that each of these Portfolios is "Copy 2". ; Elephant Folio 23" tall
